The program is open to students from Grade K - 8th.
Students must be potty trained to attend and at least 6 yrs old.
We are unable to accept children under 6 to meet our requirements under the DCFS licensed exempt status.
Sorry - we don't do diapers.
Are you a DCFS licensed facility?
We are a licensed exempt facility. We have gone through the necessary paperwork with DCFS and they determined, based on very stringent criteria, that we are exempt from formal licensing.
It may seem like we took the easy way - but NO WAY. We submitted ~150 pages of documents and supporting evidence to receive this exemption.
Do you have a sliding scale or aid available?
We do not have a sliding scale.
We do accept CCAP. Speak to the center director, Maryam, and she can guide you through the process. {she doesn't bite, promise}
What are the hours you are open?
The program runs from 2:30 (when the earliest school in Gurnee gets out) to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Their homework will be done, they will have had a physical activity (either open gym or karate class). Please share the love and take your kids home after that.
Where is the program held at?
The after-school program is held at 4411 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL 60031.
We have our main building where (it looks like a house) and our dojo (it looks like a garage).
But don't let the exterior fool you!

We're next to McClurg's garage (not sure if I can get you a discount, but I can try), and across from Viking Park.
Does my child have to do Karate?
Man . . . don't ask us that! No, they don't.
We'd love to expose everyone to martial arts, but we know it's not for everyone. Students do get open gym time throughout the week with or without martial arts classes. Homework first!
Do you help my child with homework?
Umm, YEA!
Depending on how much homework they get, our students typically get 100% of their homework done.
Not to brag, but that's a pretty good statistic.
Is transportation included?
Yes, we offer transportation for local area Gurnee 56 schools and some Gurnee 50 schools within a 10-minute drive from our dojo.
A transportation assessment will be done when you inquire about registering.
We wish we could make a road trip all over lake county, but it would take away from all the fun we have.
Are there snacks provided, or do I need to send my child with one?
Yes, we provide a small snack each afternoon. Mind you we aren't cooking a 4 or 5-course meal!
If your child has dietary restrictions, please notify us during registration. For safety, regardless of current enrollment, we would like to maintain a peanut-free envionrment.
I need care for my child when they are off from school but do not need after school care everyday, can you accommodate this?
Absolutely!
Every family has specific needs and we do our best to be flexible. In this case, you can call us a contortionist (but not in a creepy way).
Go over to our Pre-Registration page and you can register for non-member half-day or full-day care. You also have the option for Winter & Summer camps as they become available.
Typically, the next day off of school for which you are in need of you'll be enrolled in.
But, to cross all our "T's" Maryam will be in touch with you to confirm.
Who supervisors the kids?
Your kids are VERY special to us (even though we haven't met them) so they get the personalized attention from Maryam, our director, and Sensei Faouzi himself!
